First 30 minutes of WWE RAW

Monday, October 30th, 2006

Sadly, we are only able to watch about 30 minutes of Raw now since it moved to 10pm in Canada. Damn early mornings.

Who knew Eric Bishoff wasn’t in the grave. lol

Poor old Coachman gets no respect, maybe thats because you are an idiot! Will Vince McMahon dump poop on DX’s head if he wins the cyber Sunday voting? We all know he might try something but I am sure it would end up on his own head anyways.

It’s kind of pathetic, that we tune in to watch wrestling and the first 22 mins. has NO wrestling. I mean, I understand that they need to plug the pay per view, but come on. Then, the first match lasts like 2 minutes.

And can we PLEASE stop the K. Federline music plugs….I mean can they really call that music!?!?! I’d rather see some wrestling or even the Spirit Squad!

30 minutes is done and it’s bedtime, later all!

Some changes and additions

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

I’ve made some minor design changes, I’ve added some RSS feed to the left-hand column and moved all the ads to the right-hand column. I haven’t made my mind up about the RSS feeds they are kind of slow, I will play around with the sources of the feeds to see I can improve the speed of them. I will be back with some new posts really soon. I was looking on a open source template today so I will release that here and to a few sites. I like the looks of the site a lot its almost a shame to release it for free but oh well, maybe someone will make good use of it instead of it just sitting on my PC.

Later all…

My Geek WishList 2006

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

One of the forums I visit regularly had a post about Holiday Wish List. That got me thinking so I sat down and looked for the things I would like for this upcoming holiday season. So here we go:

Gorillapod - This is such a simple yet great idea for cameras. This lets you safely place the camera in a variety of different postions, it can wrap around poles, railings, sit on uneven surfaces. Is there anything this can’t do?

LED Belt buckle - This doesn’t look like it would be very comfortable on the waist when you sit down but hey you can tell everything one that walks by you a lovely little message. Such as: “You Suck” “Look Down” “The Brains” or you could cheer for your favorite sports team “GO SENS GO”. The possibilities are endless this this device, and I bet it would drive my dog nuts. :)

Tommy Gun Rubberband Gun - Having a bad day that the office? Well this little toy will fix all your problems. You get 12 shots to hit that annoying computer that keeps giving you the blue screen of death!!

8 GB USB Thumb Drive - Why? Well it holds more then my 1 GB thumb drive thats why. Do I need any more reasons then that?

No, I will not fix your computer. - Shut them up before they can even ask you to do it!

Panasonic 50″ Plasma Display - Need something for my movies, sports and my next item to look good on. Plus you can mount this on the wall and then have a millions cables hanging down from it. Old school geeks use cables. :)

Playstation 3 - Who doesn’t want to be drooling all over this bad boy???? Lock the doors, closes the curtains, get some diapers cause you’ll never want to leave your room once you get your hands on this. The realism that I am expecting out of this system should truly blow your mind. The xbox 360 looks awesome on HD TVs but I’m hoping the PS3 will win the battle hands down. Only time will tell.

Call of Duty 3 - Gotta have a kick ass game to play on the PS3 and the Plasma screen, and well if its anything like call of duty 2 it should be simply amazing to watch and crazy to play. Who ever said WW2 games were getting old was lying to you. Nothing old about this game. GRENADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sony Wireless 5.1 Channel DVD Dream System - What good is a gaming console, awesome game and a great display if the sound sucks. I know I said old school geeks use cables but I don’t need to trip and break a hip on a speaker wire, so I might as well go wireless. Its only 5.1 not 6.1 or 7.1 but it is plenty of sound for me plus I don’t want my crusty neighbor banging on my door anymore. I just have to remember to duck when the bullets wizz by my head.

Alienware Aurora PC - Take the stock system and max out every option. Then you will have the system I want. Can I afford that, well if I didn’t have a wedding to pay for next year, maybe but probably not.

A geek can dream and thats been the whole point of this post. I am sure I missed a TON of great gadgets but there you have it, 10 things to ask for and hey the prices range from cheap up to insanely expensive but such is life. If you are looking for something to buy me pick anything from this page and I will come pick it up at your house.

A basic introduction

Saturday, October 21st, 2006

Hello all,

Hey, you’re all here. Good. Sit down, and listen up… I have been given this forum, which I have nicknamed Even Flow. I consider it an even flow of random ideas and thoughts, but actually is mostly of an even flow ranting and raving, mixed in with my attitude about such things as wrestling, music, movies, and broads, all of which I have way too much of…..well except broads…I got one of those, and that’s all I need. I will let you guess if I meant that in a positive or negative way…

So you are reading and you are likely thinking, “Well, that’s great but who the hell are you?” That is not really important, because you’re reading. That’s important. Just call me a figment of your imagination. I don’t have the time nor the damn creativity to come up with a stupid nickname that sounds cool, so just call me…..Mikey… That a problem? Good.
It sounds sweet and nice, but it can also sound evil if said correctly, and that is the way I like it….

Now, on to my general rant, which is going completley opposite of any subject I just mentioned above…If you are not interested in social commentary or me getting pissed off about others, then you may want to skip this part and save yourself a good hardy verbal slaughtering about Ottawa and Quebec drivers, and if you live in Ottawa and Quebec and drive a car, this could relate to you…

I am sick of these people who don’t pay attention to the damn road, and don’t give a crap who they hit or where they go…as long as they are in the direction they are headed. They are on their phone, doing their makeup (yeah ladies, I’ve seen you do it…) or are so ancient they can’t see three feet in front of them and have their face mashed against the winshield, and give you that stupid mouth-agape look when they suddenly see you and hit the brakes. There needs to be a lot more unmarked cars roaming around and catching these people and giving them serious hits to their license and impacting the ability for them to come near a car.

Now, to hit an earlier point, I have to say that I got my woman a makeup case for her car because I felt it was easier for her to do her makeup while I drove so we would not be late for functions, and although that has not stopped us from being late, it has helped us be more on time than we were before, and apart from a little slip up here or there, she has mostly kept her makeup case in the passenger area. Sometimes we do not drive until it is taken care of, and although I know that likely is more for looks than safety, I apperiate it nonetheless, even though I show it in my manly way of being a smartass.

So, in my opinion, just drive your damn car without being stupid. Use common sense, and don’t put me at risk because you feel the impending urge to listen to your ABBA CD that is hidden under your seat. And senior folk, I have respect for my elders, and I get that you have places to go, but if you can’t see, then you can’t drive, and if you are going 20 in a 50 zone, that is just as damn careless as doing 120….That is a fact, Jack.

Also, on the other side of the timeline, I have to say that these stupid kids that drive like they are in the next sequel to the Fast And The Furious are completley ignorant to anything around them, and when they breeze by me, I always think that if they get their ass squashed by an 18 wheeler, well…..that’ll learn em.

As you can see, I take a pretty harsh stance on this sort of stuff, but you can call it tough love. You can expect that stuff a lot in this colummn, me being brash and outspoken about anything that comes to mind. Although I haven’t written in a while, this sort of awakened a beast that I had been quite fond of. This colummn won’t be always be stuff about how many people can’t seem to operate a automobile, but rather about life. Friends. Sports. Family. Broads. Whatever gets me fired up enough to make a stance. And if you have a problem with it, well…cool. You got your opinion.

This is mine.
Mikey.

You know weddings are hard work

Tuesday, October 17th, 2006

I recently got engaged to a great girl. But man who knew planning a wedding would be so painful, we aren’t getting married until next August but places and people (DJs, photographers, etc) are already booked. Plus there is the issue of venues not returning phone calls making us have to chase them down. We are doing this wedding on a budget so we won’t be spending money on a wedding planner which just means more work for us.

Here is a list of what I think is the most important to get done first:

1) Venue for both the reception and the ceremony - we are probably going to be doing both in the same place
1b) caterer - this only applies if your venue isn’t doing your food and don’t forget your dishes :)

2) book your officiant or priest (that would happen when you book the church)

3) DJ - you might think thats high on the list but if the DJ is bad or you can’t get one, that could ruin the night

4) Photographer - this really should be a tie with the DJ because this could make or break your post wedding enjoyment of the event, you will have the memories but when you are old will you be able to remember those without the photos lol

5) transportation - whether it be a limo, exotic car or horse and carriage book early

I think thats the major stuff I have probably forgotten a lot but thats just the way it goes.

Remember to have fun no matter what happens and bring on the Bachelor Party!!!

It was hockey night in Canada

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

As I sat at a pub last night with some friends we got to watch two hockey games on different big screens. The first (and best) game was the Ottawa Senators vs. Montreal Canadiens it was a pretty entertaining game that went to overtime then a shootout. Ottawa won in a shootout with Vermette and Fisher scoring goals, Emery had another solid night in the net for the Sens makes you wonder why they spent all that money on Gerber. Only time will tell who should be the number 1 goalie in Ottawa. GO SENS GO!!!!

Game #2 was the Calgary Flames vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, now I didn’t watch much of this game but I did see the short-handed goal in overtime by Mats Sundin. This is the only reason I am mentioning this game, Mats scored his 500th career goal which is a big milestone so congrats Mats. LEAFS SUCK!!!!

What could be better then beers, food, hockey and some friends. Good times, good times.

First post all about domain names

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

I already had this article written up so I figured I’d start the tech section off by talking about domain names. We all know them but can’t always get the one we want.

————————————————
Imagine what life would be like for John Doe without his name. He’d rarely participate in any conversations, take part in any games, be able to start his own business or even legally marry (well, lets not go too far but you see the point!).

Who? Me?

Whoever you are and for whatever use, a domain name is going to be important to you. It is forever becoming increasingly important that people and businesses separate themselves from others – so people remember you, and in the case that they forget you can easily search for you.

Suppose a business based on a highstreet. If people have been referred to this business and need to look up your location information, where would they go? Telephone directories are quite obsolete. More and more do people turn to the internet to look up information about businesses – contact information, profile as well as online shopping services. Regardless of how “advanced” your use for a domain name may be, a domain name is going to be an essential commodity for any business.

Suppose you have no business interest in buying a domain at all. The cost of registering domains is so low that an investment in a personal internet identity is very worthwhile.

Instead of your usual, long e-mail address that came with your internet account, why not register a more personal, memorable name that you came up with? It is easy to set up e-mail with your domain name.

More importantly – business or not - you want that domain name before the other John Doe registers it instead!

Planning Ahead

The cost of registration of a domain name, or even the cost of hosting a web site is so small that not securing your internet presence should be out of the question, even if not for immediate use. A domain is yours for as long as you wish to keep it. It is important though, that if you have an idea for your internet identity, you register it before someone else does.

There are thousands of “domain squatters” – who identify business names, register them and do nothing more than sit on them. People searching for your business name or trying to find your web site may come across one of these “squatted” names and will not find information about your business, but instead will find information about another.
